Wedding Stationery Fails to Avoid - And How to Fix Them!

Tackling wedding planning is no small feat, and your stationery sets the tone for the big day. But even the most organized couples can miss a few details that turn dream invitations into disasters. Here are the top wedding stationery fails to avoid - And, how to fix them before it’s too late. Or, just hire a custom wedding stationery designer who won’t let you make these mistakes (that’s me!).

1. The “Oops, We Forgot Someone” Fail

Nothing says awkward like realizing you left Great Aunt Linda off the guest list after your invitations have been printed. (Face Palm!)

Fix It: Always order extra invitations - I recommend at least 10-15 extras. Also, triple-check your guest list before sending it to your designer, and get a second set of eyes on your list after you’ve gone through it yourself.

2. Typos, Misspellings & Grammar Nightmares

Your invitations should be elegant and timeless keepsakes, not riddled with errors that make your high school English teacher cringe. You want this timepiece to land on your guests’ fridge, not their garbage right away.

Fix It: Have multiple sets of eyes review your proof. Read it out loud to catch awkward phrasing, and don’t rush the approval process. As a professional designer, I will also help you spot any major mistakes.

3. Illegible Fonts & Hard-to-Read Text

That delicate script might look dreamy, but if no one can read your venue details, you’ve got a problem. You may love the Bridgerton style fonts, but if you get too flowy and light, it gets really hard to read - Especially for your older guests.

Fix It: Choose fonts that are stylish and legible. A mix of a decorative script with a clean, simple font for key details works best. Ps. I will guide you through this process when we work together!

4. Poor Print Quality or Wrong Paper Choices

Thin, flimsy paper or smudged ink? Instant regret.

Fix It: Working with me, I will always connect you with a reputable printer who offers high-quality paper and ink options. Request samples before committing so you know exactly what you’re getting.

5. Not Ordering Enough (or Over-Ordering!)

Underestimating how many invitations you need can lead to last-minute panic. Overestimating can drain your budget. Grab extras in case you decide to add in last-minute invites. Shh - I won’t tell!

Fix It: Count households, not individuals, when calculating invitations. And don’t forget a few keepsakes for yourself!

6. RSVP Chaos

If guests aren’t responding, you might have made it too complicated - Or worse, forgotten an RSVP deadline.

Fix It: Make RSVPing as easy as possible. Whether it’s a pre-addressed, stamped return envelope or a wedding website with a clear deadline, give guests zero excuses to delay, or question how to respond.

7. Missing Key Information

Nothing frustrates guests more than an invitation that lacks details like dress code, plus-one policies, venue address, or accommodation options. Your invitations should also reflect the energy and setting of your event, but if the details aren’t there, you could end up with Uncle Bill showing up to your black-tie wedding in his Bermuda shorts thinking it’s a backyard BBQ - You don’t want that!

Fix It: Create an information insert or direct guests to a wedding website where they can find everything they need.

8. Sending Invitations Too Late (or Too Early!)

Timing is everything. Send invites too early, and guests forget. Too late, and they already have other plans. It’s a fine line, but I can help you determine the sweet spot in the middle.

Fix It: Aim to send invitations 10-12 weeks before the wedding (or 5-6 months for destination weddings). Save-the-dates should go out 6-12 months in advance.

Seal The Deal

Your wedding stationery should be as seamless as the rest of your big day. By avoiding these common fails and working with a professional stationery designer (hi!), you’ll ensure your invitations set the perfect tone - Without the stress. Because, you have other things that deserve your attention and energy while planning your wedding!
